DOCA's
Military Visit in Las Vegas, Nevada
Nellis
AFB
Nevada Test Site
Creech AFB
March 21 through 24, 2010
The
Departments of Defense and Energy are developing a most
informative program for DOCA members only in Las
Vegas, Nevada, March 21 through March 24, 2010. During our visit, we will visit Nellis Air Force Base, the
Nevada Test Site, and Creech Air Force Base.
Las
Vegas, NV: Members
are to arrive in Las Vegas by Sunday, March 21st and
check into the Venetian hotel, which will be our home base
throughout the program. There
will be a Newcomers Orientation meeting in the early evening for
members on their first trip, sponsors and Executive Committee
members. There will
also be Executive Committee and Board meetings earlier that day.
Nellis
AFB:
The program begins Monday morning, March 22nd
when we plan to travel by charter bus to Nellis Air Force Base, the
"Home of the Fighter Pilot." Nellis Air Force Base is
home to the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, the largest and most
demanding advanced air combat training mission in the world.
Nellis provides training for composite strike forces which include
every type of aircraft in the Air Force inventory. Training is
conducted in conjunction with air and ground units of the Army,
Navy, Marine Corps and air forces from our allied nations.
Nevada Test Site: Tuesday
morning, March 23rd we will visit a unique national
resource. The Nevada Test Site is a massive outdoor laboratory and
national experimental center that cannot be duplicated. Larger
than the state of Rhode Island, approximately 1,375 square miles,
the Nevada Test Site is one of the largest restricted access areas
in the United States. The remote site is surrounded by thousands
of additional acres of land withdrawn from the public domain for
use as a protected wildlife range and for a military gunnery
range, creating an unpopulated land area comprising some 5,470
square miles. Established as the Atomic Energy Commission's
on-continent proving ground, the Nevada Test Site has seen more
than four decades of nuclear weapons testing. Since the nuclear
weapons testing moratorium in 1992 and under the direction of the
Department of Energy (DOE), test site use has diversified into
many other programs such as hazardous chemical spill testing,
emergency response training, conventional weapons testing, and
waste management and environmental technology studies.
Creech
AFB: On
Wednesday, March 24th, we will wrap up our program with
a visit to Creech Air Force base, home to
the "Hunters" of the 432d Wing and 432d Air
Expeditionary Wing, and the Joint Unmanned Aircraft System Center
of Excellence. The base also hosts the operations of the 556th
Test and Evaluation Squadron, 99th Ground Combat Training
Squadron, and 98th Southern Ranges Support Squadron. The
“Predator” and “Reaper” unmanned aircraft
that
guard the skies over Iraq and Afghanistan are based here.
The
$795 registration fee covers group expenses: group meals;
commercial ground transportation; costs for military guests; DOCA
caps; and administrative and operating expenses associated with
the trip. It does
not include: the cost of commercial air travel, hotel or
personal expenses such as individual meals, room service, laundry,
and telephone.
Complete
and mail your registration form with check now! Only after we have
your registration and deposit, and
confirm you on the trip, should you book your air travel
through your own travel agent, the airlines, or with Omega World
Travel.
This
DOCA visit is limited to a maximum of 80 participants.
Due to our contractual agreement, priority for trip
registration will be given to those who opt to stay at the DOCA
headquarters hotel, The Venetian.
In addition, priority will be given to the first 25
officers and directors who register between now and February 12,
2010 to insure that we have a quorum.
We anticipate that this trip will fill up fast so don’t
delay sending in your registration and check.
Another
DOCA adventure is about to unfold. Don’t miss this opportunity
to further your knowledge of national security issues and travel
with some of your friends. I hope to see you in Las Vegas!
